Detroit Show 2011 Highlights: 2012 Audi A6 Hybrid
MEET the turbocharged executive express that's got one eye on the fuel pumps. This is Audi's A6 Hybrid – the firm's second showroom-ready petrol-electric car.
Making its debut at the Detroit Motor Show, it was revealed alongside the regular A6, which goes on sale in the UK in the Spring. Packing a 211bhp 2.0-litre TFSI turbocharged four-cylinder engine boosted by a 45bhp electric motor, it gets essentially the same powertrain as the A8 Hybrid concept, revealed at last year's Geneva Motor Show, and the upcoming Q5 Hybrid.
This drives the front wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. In the boot is a 1.3kWh li-ion battery pack and together with the electric motor, the A6 Hybrid can run solely on zero emissions power for a maximum of two miles, up to speeds of 62mph.
Sales will start later this year, although there are no plans to bring the new model to the UK. Audi insiders say that the A6's diesel line-up offers UK buyers an even better mix of economy and performance. For more details click here.
